Work – Planning for change

Hanois LighthouseAfter writing my first post, interesting news came along about my current full time job in Marketing. It seems that the company I work for may be moving to a different country. We have had no actual confirmation yet about what is going to happen to us or our jobs. Speaking with colleagues, there are a lot of unanswered questions floating about and it is going to be a couple of months before we get the answers. Until we are given the full information about what will happen to us, there is very little that can be done in the way of planning for the future. Whatever happens, there will be opportunities for the taking as long as I have the confidence to grab them. This is the sort of situation that can help me work towards the goals that this blog was intended to define!

By considering the worst-case scenario that my job is no longer based in Guernsey, these are the steps I need to take now:

  1. Get to grips with my current financial situation.
  2. Update my CV – This is good practice and might be needed.
  3. Decide what I want to do!

Should I decide to take a new direction, completing these steps will give me information regarding my current situation and what further steps are needed to reach my goal. In theory, I should be able to do all of these in my sleep. That third point above is hard though, I have got many ideas that range from climbing Everest to becoming a full-time television watcher. It is important that the choice is well thought out and has a future to it! It’s time to pull out my copy of  The 4-hour Work Week and brush up on the options available for joining the ‘New Rich’!
